Volunteers & Interns
Haven of Hope Foundation Inc. needs your help as a volunteers to support our programs and fundraising efforts. Your gift of time and talent is essential to keeping our doors open to the battered women and children in our community who desperately need our services. Whether you’re an individual, part of a church group, a scouting troop or a corporate team, there’s a place for you in our volunteer program.
Volunteers and interns are required to complete a 15 hour agency-run training before they can work directly with clients. Participants learn about domestic violence issues, shelter operations, advocacy, hotline calls, listening skills, and more.
For certain special projects and tasks that don't involve our clients, the training may not be required. Please see the list below for details.
Following the training, volunteers and interns generally may be assigned to work any time between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. Schedules are based on (a) the days and times you feel you can be available, (b) the number of hours required for an internship, and especially (c) the operational needs of the shelter. Consider several different schedule alternatives as it may not always be possible to assign the exact time frame desired. Daytime hours, of course, are busiest and provide maximum opportunity for exposure to a variety of tasks. Evening hours are quieter but hold more opportunity for direct client interaction. A combination of both often provides the optimum learning experience.
For volunteer work that requires the training, we will now conduct a criminal background check for all volunteers and interns. This is required by our insurance and is for the protection of our clients.

Trainings and orientation occurs three times per year during January, June and September. If you are interested in signing up for the training, fill out and return the Volunteer Application Form and the Authorization for Criminal Background Check Form. You will be contacted when the training dates are finalized.
